“There is as much dignity in tilling a field as in writing a poem.”
—Booker T. Washington
In addition to writing television and radio scripts, jingles and marketing plans, Roberts also writes poetry. Her poems touch on a diverse mix of subject matter; however, her favorite writing is whimsical and lesson-oriented children’s verse.
Roberts’ public readings include an interview with Kathy Stahl during “Spectrum West” (Wisconsin Public Radio), The Vision and the Word visual artist and poet collaborations, Barnes & Noble Bookstore, Weidner Center for the Performing Arts, and other venues.
Roberts’ published poetry includes Free Verse Issue #95 (2008) and “La Luz,” Life Underscored, Green Bay Symphony Orchestra’s 2007/2008 Season Brochure #94.
In April of 2007, Roberts won first place in the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra’s statewide poetry contest. Her poem, “La Luz,” was selected as the winner from among more than 300 entries from throughout Wisconsin. During a residency in the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra’s 2007–2008 Music Alive Composer-In-Residence program, world-renowned composer Daniel Kellogg (www.danielkellogg.com), set Roberts’ poem to music via an orchestral score with choir. On April 12, 2008, this new work was performed by the Green Bay Symphony Orchestra with the Dudley Birder Chorale, conducted by Bridget-Michaele Reischl at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.
